Roles we place
The staff a private house needs
From the house manager who runs it to the companion who keeps an older client company: permanent and temporary, living in and living out.
We place the seven roles below most often, and describe each on a page of its own: what the role involves in the households we act for, who we look for, what it pays and how we search.
- IHouse managers
Run the house, its staff and its budget, so that the family need not.
- IIButlers
Service at table and at the door, the cellar, the silver and the household’s guests.
- IIIHousekeepers
The rooms, the linen and the wardrobe, kept as the family like them kept.
- IVNannies and governesses
From newborn care to the school years, live-in or live-out.
- VPrivate chefs
For families who eat at home, and households that entertain.
- VIEstate security
Residential security officers, gatehouse staff and protective drivers.
- VIICompanions for older clients
Company, conversation and a life kept going, at home.
Also placed
We also place, less often but with the same care:
- Chauffeurs, for households that do not need a protective driver.
- Domestic couples, who keep a house between them, often a second home or an island house.
- Caretakers, who live on a property while the family is away and keep it ready for their return.
- Laundresses and ladies’ maids, for households with wardrobes that need a specialist.
- Personal assistants to a principal, where the work is chiefly the household’s and not the principal’s business.
- Newborn care specialists, through our family services desk.
If the role you need is not on this list, please ask. Over the years we have been asked for a great many things, among them a piano tuner who would live in and someone to wind forty-one clocks every Sunday, and we found both.
Permanent or temporary
Every role can be placed permanently or for a period. Our temporary and seasonal staff page describes the second.
